Accepted Solution

A:

Bob is 10.1 miles away from home.Solution:Given that
Bob is training for a Race.
Number of miles Bob ran away from home = 14.6 miles
Number of miles Bob ran towards from home = 9.8 miles
Number of miles Bob ran again from home = 5.3 miles
Need to determine how far is bob from his home.
Let position of home = A First, Bob ran 14.6 miles away from his home:Let first Bob run from A to B => AB = 14.6 miles
Second, Bob ran 9.8 miles towards his home:From B to C toward A ( home ) = BC = 9.8 miles
So AC = AB – BC = 14.6 – 9.8 = 4.8 miles
Finally bob ran 5.3 miles away from his home:From C move to D ( away from home that is A ) = CD = 5.3 miles
So AD = AC + CD = 4.8 + 5.3 = 10.1 miles.
Hence bob is 10.1 miles away from home.
